Job Description :
As Chief Estimator, your primary focus will be creating accurate estimates as part of proposals for both hard bid and negotiated projects, ensuring winning and profitable estimates. You will also lead the Estimating Department and engage Project Managers and other members of the construction team at proposal time. Your participation will begin at the Conceptual Estimating stage, include the go/no go decision regarding projects to pursue and proposal process and continue through completion of construction. Your experience in construction, ideally as a Project Manager and Estimator, will have developed your ability to produce Conceptual Estimates, create estimates in WinEst, Timberline or similar software, and review them with the eye of an experienced construction professional.

Key Responsibilities
Effectively plan, lead and oversee the Estimating Department
Lead the estimating effort from beginning to end. Coordination with President, Vice President, General Superintendent and other key operations staff to effectively integrate selected project team members into the estimating effort
Manage the Estimating Team; assess, hire/fire, train, mentor Estimator(s) and Senior Estimator(s)
Assemble and document winning bids using WinEst and solid knowledge of commercial construction in the competitive general contracting marketplace for: Hard Bid, Guaranteed Maximum Price and Conceptual estimating
Perform quantity take-offs and pricing for self-performed work including preconstruction earthwork, pre-cast and cast in place concrete and erection of steel, frames, doors and miscellaneous.
Interface with subcontractors, suppliers and other business partners, clearly defining scope of work; accurately assess resulting bids
Run final bid tabulation sheets on bid day, perform fee analysis, site reviews, specification and contract review, project risk analysis and assessment, and project selection analysis within the stressful conditions of bid-day
Track and update potential and targeted projects
Work cohesively with other Estimators within the Company to maximize ability to win work by willingly and cooperatively sharing resources and experiences
Desired Skills & Experience

10+ years experience estimating $5M - $150M commercial construction projects, both hard bid and estimated design-build and GCCM projects for a General Contractor or Construction Manager at Risk
Bachelors degree in Construction Management or related field; AA degree and experience will be given consideration
Proven skill to develop both conceptual and actual bids resulting in contracted building projects that meet targeted profit, safety and quality targets
Consistent success in accurately evaluating the scopes, pricing, inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, conditions of subcontractor and vendor quotations in a timely manner
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively manage the entire estimating group and hold team members accountable
Recent and relevant working knowledge of WinEst or similar database estimating systems and Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated working knowledge of construction, building systems and products. Previous experience as a Project Manager and/or a skilled trades person preferred
Proficiency with pre-construction services including conceptual estimating, value engineering, bid package assembly, subcontractor qualification, budget development and updating as design evolves, reconciliation with other estimates and estimators.
Visibility and relationships in the marketplace with owners, designers, subcontractors and vendors so as to become quickly aware of upcoming opportunities and build Companys reputation
A Team Player; and proven ability to promote an environment that fosters collaboration
Enthusiasm and experience to develop a cutting edge Estimating Department, employing best practices and tools for training, resources and technology.
