The Director of Procurement will be responsible for the company’s procurement, program-including driving the selection, deployment, and management of strategies, tools processes, and people to execute the company’s portfolio of strategic projects. The central challenge of the position is to obtain materials and services at the lowest total cost of ownership while meeting key business objectives such as service, quality, and timing. As a transformational leader within the company, the position will act as a change agent to drive process improvements across the organization. The position manages a staff of procurement professionals, reports to the President and partners with the CFO, General Counsel, Risk Management and other key business leaders. This position is located in Northbrook Illinois.

Key Responsibilities

As a working leader, drive process improvements and innovation across the company
Ensure proper selection and implementation of supporting technology and toolsets, including a future ERP solution
Work with business leaders to identify new opportunities to optimize operational efficiencies through the implementation of new technology and processes
Provide regular market intelligence on macro business environment, market trends and supply market risk
Prepare quarterly Procurement updates for the executive leadership team
Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure projects a) captures all relevant points of view and b) stays on track and on time
Surface internal business preferences and sensitivities early in the process; develop plans to integrate and/or resolve conflicting points of view
Set, maintain, and clearly communicate overall strategy, timeline, and work-plan for the project to senior management
Maintain and monitor Procurement Scorecard to ensure Procurement Team objectives are achieved
Structured analysis of company spend, contracts, and suppliers for informed decision making by key stakeholders
Compare supplier RFQ responses (“bid tab analysis”); structure analyses to help stakeholders evaluate strengths and weaknesses of suppliers and their proposals
Lead development of negotiation strategy; conduct advanced total cost modeling and sensitivity/scenario analysis to help stakeholders understand trade-offs and business benefits of various negotiation strategies/outcomes
Lead or support negotiations with shortlisted suppliers; communicate results to business; develop final sourcing recommendation(s) and ensure broad support among stakeholders
Make award notification(s); continue to lead strategic sourcing project through contracting, confirming that negotiated outcomes are properly reflected in final contract language
Quantify and document strategic sourcing project results; maintain excellent documentation of all sourcing project materials, e.g., spreadsheets, RFQ responses, proposals, etc.
Develop comprehensive implementation and communications plan with key stakeholders and end users; ensure involvement of all organizations and individuals impacted by implementation
Conduct/participate in project performance review; identify best practices, opportunities for improvement, and lessons learned
Establish staff training/development plans based on performance

The ideal candidate will possess: (1) significant experience executing the classic sourcing process for large, complex, infrastructure and power industry related projects (2) working knowledge of the construction industry, (3) the leadership and coaching skills to attract, develop and retain procurement talent, (4) a proven track record of delivering distinctive commercial results, (5) the strategic and interpersonal skills to act as an effective change agent that is able to work collaboratively with all levels within and across the organization.

Practical and working knowledge of the construction industry
Strong project management skills, including stakeholder- and timeline management

Experienced negotiator with strong contracting skills
Demonstrated track record of transforming supply chain processes, and / or leading continuous improvement processes

Over the past seven years, Kenny Construction has been steadily developing a class leading supply chain organization to support its growth. A critical mission for the Kenny Procurement function is strategic sourcing and category management for the corporations major spend categories used to support its seven business divisions. Kenny Construction is seeking to hire a highly experience and dynamic individual to lead its decentralized Procurement function. The role-titled Director of Procurement – will lead the function with responsibility for $500M in annual spend.
